Introduction

Zhongfeng, located between the three peaks of Dongfeng, Xifeng, and Nanfeng, is a small mountain attached to the west side of Dongfeng, known as Yuniu Peak, because there is a Taoist temple called Yuniu Temple on the peak. Inside the temple, there is a stone statue of Nongyu, the daughter of Qin Mugong during the Spring and Autumn Period, who is said to have practiced here. There are also landscapes such as stone turtles, rootless trees, and self-sacrificing trees on the peak. These landscapes and related legends enrich the connotation of Zhongfeng, making this mountain more magical and beautiful. Many literati have written poems about Yuniu and Yuniu Peak, such as Du Fu's "Looking at the Peak," Wang Han's "Returning to the Mingxing Yuniutan to Send Lianchawei Huayin," and Gu Xianzheng's "Climbing Huashan.” These poems have added valuable information to the study of Zhongfeng. The landscapes of Zhongfeng are related to the story of Xiaoshi Nongyu, such as Mingxing Yuniu Cliff, Yuniu Cave, Yuniu Stone Horse, and Yuniu Hair-washing Plate. The original stone statue of Nongyu and other objects inside the temple were destroyed by natural disasters and human calamities. Later generations rebuilt the temple, and in 1983, they also reshaped the Nongyu statue. The current statue of Nongyu is dignified, beautiful, antique, and rigorous.
