Introduction

She Shan Our Lady of China Catholic Church is a famous church located at the top of She Shan. Originally built by French missionaries in 1871, it was expanded in 1925. The church adopts the European "Baroque" style and integrates traditional Chinese architectural techniques, making it a crystallization of Chinese and Western cultures. The church blends harmoniously with the surrounding hills, with a Latin cross-shaped floor plan that can accommodate nearly 4,000 worshippers. The interior is exquisitely designed, with the main altar made of marble, some of the church windows inlaid with colored glass, and a glazed tile roof. The church's bell tower is 38 meters high and has an 8-meter-tall statue of Our Lady made of bronze on top. In 1942, the Pope sanctified She Shan Catholic Church as a "sanctuary," making it a holy site for Chinese Catholics. Along the winding path from the foot of the mountain to the top, worshippers can see 14 stations of the cross, each with a Jesus suffering relief and three holy pavilions.
