Introduction

Wangkou Ancient Village was founded in the Daguang period of the Song Dynasty by the esteemed third-rank official, Yu Gao, and has a history of more than 1,100 years. Located at the confluence of two rivers with clear blue waters, it was named "Wangkou". The village name, "Yongchuan", was inspired by the poem "Jiang Zhi Yong Yi" in the Book of Poetry and refers to the descendants of the founder flowing like water. It is one of the third batch of Chinese historical and cultural towns and villages named by the State Council. Surrounded by green hills and flowing water, the ancient village is located in hilly terrain. As described in a poem, "birds sing and roosters crow outside the border, water and mountains enter the attic", the scenery is very pleasant. Since the Song Dynasty, the culture of Wangkou has been flourishing, producing many talents, including five jinshi, two juren, seven high-ranking officials, 36 civil and military officials above the seventh rank, ten bachelors, and 33 volumes of written work. It has also earned the name "Book Village". Wangkou is a must-pass for the land route from Huangshan City to Raozhou in Jiangxi Province, and an important node connecting the waterways of Dongbei Township and Wuyuan County during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Even after centuries of vicissitudes, it still retains many important historical relics. In Wangkou Village of Jiangwan Town, 30 kilometers northeast of Wuyuan County, there is the Yu Family Ancestral Hall, covering an area of over 1,000 square meters. This building is a magnificent example of mid-axis shed-styled architecture from the Qing Dynasty, with a rigorous layout, exquisite craftsmanship, and unique style. It is praised by experts in ancient architecture as one of the "treasures of art".
