Introduction
Vilnius Cathedral is located on the spacious Cathedral Square (Katedros aikštė), where visitors can admire the city's beauty from the 57-meter high bell tower. Built in 1387-1388, this Gothic wooden structure has undergone several restorations. The St. Casimir chapel inside the cathedral is a Baroque building decorated with frescoes depicting Lithuanian saints and a silver sarcophagus. If Vilnius were to have a coordinate system based on its landmarks, the cathedral would undoubtedly be chosen as the center point - it is located in the heart of the old town and almost all the sights can be extended from here. Vilnius Cathedral is actually a complex of several religious buildings, dating back to the 13th century. It is one of the main religious sites in Vilnius and has the highest level of Mass scale in the country, but unfortunately, Mass is not open to the public. The Chapel of St. Casimir is the most worth seeing place in the cathedral, preserving the original appearance of the 17th century Baroque design. It is recommended to make the cathedral the first stop when visiting the old town of Vilnius, where you can admire the charm of Baroque art in the St. Casimir chapel.
