Introduction

Viru Gates is one of the main entrances to Tallinn's Old Town, consisting of two interrelated round towers. Although it was built in the 14th century, only part of the original structure has been preserved. Viru Gates is located on the east side of City Hall and was first built between 1345 and 1355. It is said that the word "Viru" comes from Finnish, meaning "Estonia".

Take bus no. 2 from the airport to Viru Center (fare: 1.6 euros). Keep an eye out for the stop closest to Viru Center (the shopping center opposite the bus station). Once inside Viru Center, exit from the other door and walk through the park to reach the entrance of Old Town at Viru Gates.
