Introduction
Surrounded by a beautiful forest, a man-made lake outside of the town of Thessaloniki Halamo is only a 15-minute walk from the city center. In the evening, a large number of beautiful egrets gather on the trees by the lake, creating the illusion of white flowers blooming on the trees. The lake, while not very large, offers scenic views and is perfect for a leisurely walk during sunset. One of the unique features of Thessaloniki Lake is the famous rain tree, which has an umbrella-like shape and is very distinctive. On the west bank, several rain trees are filled with hundreds of bats, which fly in flocks during sunset and early morning, creating a stunning view. The lake water is crystal clear and locals swim in it.
