Introduction

Sanxia Ancient Street was once the commercial center of the local area, equivalent to places like Heping Street, Renai Road, Zhongshan Road and Minquan Street. This 200-meter-long ancient street still retains many commercial buildings from the Japanese colonial period, making it one of the best preserved red brick arcade streets in Taiwan. Similar architectural styles can also be seen in places like Daxi Ancient Street in Taoyuan. This was a popular architectural style during the Japanese colonial era, and the people living on the street at that time were all from wealthy and influential families, so no effort was spared in the construction of the buildings.
