Introduction

The City Hall is a triangular building that combines Islamic and Austro-Hungarian styles. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire period, it was used as a city hall, and later renovated into a national library during World War I. During the Bosnian War in 1992, the City Hall was set on fire by Serbian forces, resulting in over 90% of the library's collection being destroyed. With the assistance of the EU, reconstruction of the building began in 1996 and it was reopened on May 9, 2014.
