Introduction

Suicide Cliff, located in the north and not far from the Banzai Cliff, is a mountain wall that reaches a height of 250 meters. During World War II, many Japanese people committed suicide here because they refused to become prisoners of the American military, and this situation was once very common. In order to commemorate these lost lives and remind people of the cruelty and horror of war, the Japanese erected a Guanyin statue and comfort tower next to the Banzai Cliff. At the highest point of Suicide Cliff, a peace memorial monument was also erected to worship the deceased souls. To this day, many Japanese people still come to these two locations every year to mourn and comfort the departed, expressing their sorrow and warning against war.
