Introduction

Thian Hock Keng Temple is located in the Central Business District of Singapore, built in 1821, and has a history of nearly 200 years. It is one of the oldest temples in Singapore, dedicated to the goddess of seafarers, "Tian Hou Niang Niang" (also known as Mazu). It was initially built by sailors who wanted to thank Mazu for her protection, hence its other name, Mazu Temple. Thian Hock Keng Temple is full of traditional Southern Chinese architectural styles, using stone, porcelain, wood, and dragon-phoenix decoration. Its exquisite carvings and grand columns are amazing, and it is said that the entire building did not use a single nail. The temple also has a plaque bestowed by the Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty in 1907.
