Introduction

The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, located only 12 kilometers away from Singapore's city center, is one of the only two cities in the world to preserve large areas of pristine tropical rainforests. Covering an area of 400 acres, it houses over 500 species of animals and more than 840 species of flowering plants. The center of the reserve is the Bukit Timah Hill, which stands at 164.3 meters and is the highest point in Singapore. Climbing to the top offers stunning views of the Lion City. The paths through the jungle are filled with a variety of rare flora and fauna, making it an ideal location to explore the beauty of Singapore's rainforests. However, due to maintenance work, the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve will be completely closed for the first time in September 2014. Major maintenance work is expected to be completed by March 2015, followed by a partial opening phase of 18 months, with full reopening expected only in 2017.
