Introduction

The Memorial, located near the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, stands approximately 20 meters high and was built to commemorate 124 Singaporeans who died during the First World War. On the back of the Memorial, the names of those who died during the Second World War (1939-1945) are inscribed, along with a phrase in four languages (English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil) that reads, "Their sacrifice became our survival." This Memorial showcases the Singaporean people's appreciation and respect for war and peace.
