Introduction

The Eight-Di Bridge is famous for its unique design connecting three small rivers and is known as "China's oldest overpass bridge". Legend has it that its clever design was in accordance with the existing streets and houses layout in the city of Shaoxing, making full use of the terrain without the need to demolish houses or modify roads. Today, after eight hundred years, this old bridge still stands tall, quiet and serene, as if time has stood still. Its simple and elegant style makes people feel as if they have returned to the old days of a vibrant and harmonious water town. Perhaps we can also draw inspiration from it and try to accommodate local environments as much as possible without forcibly changing the existing natural and urban landscapes.
