Valensole
Valensole is located on the Provence plateau, enjoying sunny weather all year round. It is one of the most representative small towns in Provence. It is also one of the best places to view lavender fields. There are many professional lavender processing factories around the town, extracting lavender essential oil in the most natural and pure way, and making various lavender products such as lavender tea, honey, and small pillows. Taking the D8 road from Valensole to Digne, you will see large lavender fields and the largest sunflower field in southern France. Additionally, along the way, there are large fields of other flowers, presenting different beautiful sceneries in different seasons: rapeseed flowers in April, poppies in May, cherry orchards in June, and lavender and sunflowers in July, all of which are breathtaking.
Abbey of Sénanque
The abbey is nestled in the mountains, surrounded by dense forests. Its architectural style is unique and bright, making it one of the most representative buildings in the Provence region. It is known as 'between heaven,' because it is located in a quiet and mysterious valley, often described as 'God's country.' The surrounding scenery is also spectacular, with centuries-old olive and almond trees, winding paths, and beautiful courtyards. In summer, various flowers bloom, creating a refreshing atmosphere. The lavender fields in front of the Abbey of Sénanque are one of the most famous attractions in the Provence region, and their beauty has appeared on many postcards. Just like the scenes printed on stamps and banknotes, the scenery here is a must-see experience.
Sault
Sault is one of the largest lavender producing areas in Europe, known as the 'Lavender Capital'. This small town, located at an altitude of about 400 meters with a population of just over a thousand, is surrounded by vast lavender fields. Despite its tranquility, it boasts medieval alleys rich in history and culture, and exquisite old shop windows. Every year on August 15th, the town hosts a grand lavender festival, offering visitors a romantic visual feast. If you miss the lavender fields in June and July, don't worry, Sault in August can still fulfill your romantic desires.
Avignon
Avignon was built during the Roman period and is now a popular tourist destination in southern France. Avignon is very close to Sault and Valensole, making it a great stopover city for a lavender tour. Avignon has a Lavender Museum where you can learn about lavender before enjoying the pastoral scenery, making your trip more fulfilling. Every July, Avignon hosts the Festival d'Avignon, turning the entire city into a grand stage. If you have the chance to attend this international event, it will be a rare experience.
