Madrid's market guide

As someone who always likes to explore the city and can't sit still, the various markets in Madrid are also a must-visit place for weekend strolls. You can find all kinds of vintage items, second-hand books, vinyl records, bicycles, antique toys, pipes, stamps, postcards, etc. Compared with high-end stores, these down-to-earth markets seem to have a more vibrant atmosphere of life. Watching the bustling crowds and bargaining with the vendors, and the joy of discovering something you like by chance are all the fun of strolling through the markets.

El Rastro Market

The most famous and oldest market in Madrid, probably well-known to Chinese people thanks to Sanmao. Every Sunday at 9 AM, hundreds of stalls are set up in Cascorro Square. You can bargain with the vendors if you find something you like, but be vigilant and watch out for pickpockets.
The Antique Toy Market (Mercado del Juguete Antiguo) has been held since 1997. Initially, it was simply a place for trading antique and old toys, but it gradually evolved into a venue for toy collectors to showcase and exchange their collections. It is now held at the La Ermita Shopping Center (Centro Comercial La Ermita), where you can find many memories from your childhood.

Design Center Market

The Design Center Market (Mercado Central de Diseño) is held on the first weekend of each month at the Matadero Madrid. It aims to provide a platform for talented Spanish designers, artists, and independent brands to showcase their works and themselves. In addition to the works of designers from various fields, you can also enjoy a drink in the market's courtyard.

Dosde Market

Dosde Market is an open-air market held every Saturday during the spring and summer seasons at Plaza del Dos de Mayo in Madrid. At the stalls of Dosde Market, you can find various movie posters, records, handicrafts, toys, and products from independent brands, among other things. The participating vendors change every month.

Engine Market

The Engine Market is held monthly at the Madrid Railway Museum, with stalls set up among the trains and tracks on display at the museum. It sells vintage items, books, vinyl records, second-hand furniture, food, and also has beverage stalls. Additionally, at the Mercado de Motores, you can exchange second-hand items, and you might be able to swap something you don't want for a pleasant surprise. The Engine Market is held once a month, except in August.
