Seven beautiful self-driving travel destinations in China! Guides to off-the-beaten-path self-driving destinations

Every year during holidays and festivals, everyone takes advantage of their free time and visits tourist spots all over the country. However, for self-driving enthusiasts, the best choice is to explore the hidden and undeveloped scenic spots that are not crowded or widely known.

Ming'ao Terraces

The Ming'ao Terraces are the largest terraces in Jiangnan, second only to the Yuanyang Terraces in Yunnan. They are bordered by the mountains of southern Zhejiang to the west and the sea to the east. Every early summer, the Pacific moisture gathers on the eastern slopes of the mountains, providing abundant water vapor. Here, you will find villages hidden deep in the mountains, where people work from sunrise to sunset. The terraces are arranged in an orderly manner, accompanied by old houses and mountains. The daily sunrises and sunsets are especially worth seeing. During the water release season, morning mist drifts among the mountains, with the sky either glowing golden at sunrise or bathed in a magnificent sunset. The terraces appear even more charming and beautiful in the shimmering light.
Located within Yangyuan County, it is the oldest county town and village, hence the saying 'Kaiyang is the pioneer of Yangyuan County villages.' This is definitely an ancient city that will amaze you. Kaiyang Fort is approximately 300 meters in length and width, and the earthen city walls retain their original contours. The streets within Kaiyang Fort are arranged in a grid pattern, divided into 9 sections, historically known as 'Jiugong Street.' It preserves the overall appearance of an ancient city that is thousands of years old.
Gongnaisi was praised by a 17th-century British explorer as the most beautiful place in the world. The Gongnaisi River rushes westward, distant mountains are shrouded in mist, with towering peaks and valleys filled with flowers and grass. Due to its sparse population and isolation, Gongnaisi exudes an extraordinary tranquility. Nestled deep in the Tianshan Mountains, one can ride horses across the boundless grasslands. It is like a vivid ink painting, with a profound and pure artistic conception.
Ranwu Lake is located beside the famous National Highway 318. It is a huge highland barrier lake with a calm and mirror-like surface, making it a serene and beautiful lake that every traveler to Tibet has long admired. In March and April, the lake water is as smooth as a mirror, reflecting the snow-capped mountains. The crystal-clear glaciers meander through the lush, verdant primeval forests, outlining the beautiful contours of the mountains. Here, the lake water is clear, reflecting the blue sky and snow-capped mountains. Beside it, glaciers descend, resembling a row of sharp swords plunging straight into the lake.

Laishui County, Hebei

Laishui in Hebei is a relatively new and fun place to visit. The Baishi Mountain in Laishui has a geological structure of metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rock mountains are rare in China; Taroko Gorge in Taiwan is also made of metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rock is similar to marble, making the entire Baishi Mountain look very special. The exposed white rocks blend with lush vegetation, and the peaks and valleys are different from typical mountains. The entire Laishui area is very cool, so they call it the 'Cool City.' There are also many wild sections of the Great Wall here, such as Daomaguan and Wulonggou, which sound very wild just by their names.

Panshan Scenic Area

Panshan is a mountain with both cultural heritage and natural scenery, located in Jixian County with convenient transportation. It is cool in summer, making it a great place to escape the heat. There are many temples on the mountain, and the most famous one is managed by Master Yanchan. Currently, all seven temples on the mountain are under his management.

Feixian

Feixian is located in the Yimeng Mountain area of Shandong, characterized by the typical Mengshan and Yishui landscapes. Feixian is unique for its stones; the underground is filled with peculiar stones similar to Taihu stones. There is a Stone Garden in the county where you can visit and purchase these stones.
