Sinan Road - Experience the "Renaissance" of Old Shanghai Concession

Sinan Road, formerly known as Masnan Road, is a road in Shanghai, China named after a French musician. This building nearly gathers all the Chinese and Western architectural styles of old Shanghai, resembling an exposition of international architecture and showcasing the essence of Shanghai-style culture. The Sinan Mansions on Sinan Road, known for encompassing humanities, fashion, history, and art, constantly host cultural activities, exhibitions, and lectures, bringing about a "renaissance" to this old concession area. As a result, it has become a typical representative of the city.

Located at 73 Sinan Road, this three-story garden house with French architectural style is the former site of the Chinese Communist Party delegation office in Shanghai. Upon entering, you can see a wisteria trellis, which looks very quiet and comfortable. Every late summer and early autumn, Zhou Enlai liked to walk around the grass, sit on a wicker chair, have cordial conversations with the staff, and discuss work arrangements. There is a large pine tree planted among the grass, with lush branches and leaves.
Located at No. 87 Sinan Road, this house is a four-story Spanish-style garden villa. The roof adopts the Mansard style, which means the roof slope has two sections: the top is gentle and the section near the eaves is steeper. The central part can open wide windows, making it feel very bright. In front of the building, there is a fairly large garden where Mei Lanfang often walked, practiced his vocal exercises, and ran. The highest floor of the building was occupied by Mei Lanfang's mother-in-law and daughter, the third floor by Mei and his wife, the second floor was the son's bedroom, and the ground floor housed the servants and the car. While living on Sinan Road, Mei Lanfang rehearsed plays such as 'Jin Bing' and 'Sheng Si Hen'.

Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Location: No. 7 Xiangshan Road (at the intersection of Sinan Road and Xiangshan Road). Located at No. 7 Xiangshan Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, People's Republic of China, the Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen is a dark gray two-story Western-style building. Sun Yat-sen lived in Shanghai from 1918 to 1924. In 1925, Sun Yat-sen passed away in Beijing, and his residence was occupied by his wife Soong Ching-ling until 1937. In 1945, Soong Ching-ling transferred the residence to the National Government of Nanjing as a permanent memorial to Sun Yat-sen. In 1949, the government of the People's Republic of China took over the residence. The apartment is divided into two floors: the lower floor consists of the living room and dining room, while the upper floor includes the study, bedroom, and a small sitting room. In 1961, the Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen in Shanghai was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit.

A Niang Noodle House

Although the shop is simple, the environment is quite clean. Many of the people who come to eat are locals. Take a bite of the popular yellow croaker noodles or eel noodles, and the taste of old Shanghai wafts from the steaming pot.

It mainly serves coffee and desserts, and also sells European vintage furniture and daily necessities. With the enchanting lights and the scenery outside the window, you can relive the old days of Shanghai.
