Do you need to look at the red light when turning right while driving in the United States ?

Generally not required, but yield to vehicles turning left. If there is a sign indicating that the red light prohibits turning right, wait for the green light to turn right.
No lights required, but you must stop, look and make sure there are no oncoming cars before turning. You must always yield to main traffic. Once you have made your turn, accelerate quickly and do not block the cars behind you.
