Very safe, I live in a villa in Lawei, but I remind you of one thing, valuable items should be put away. During the days I lived there, I found people coming and going every day, including cleaning, pool maintenance, and so on. They will knock on the door first. If no one answers, they will open the door by themselves. It's best not to be too exposed in the house during the day.
