It depends on your Great Ocean Road itinerary. If you plan to spend 3 days there, you may want to stay in two different places for the first and second nights.

I live in Apollo Bay. I also went directly to the Great Ocean Road after picking up the car at the airport and stayed in Apollo Bay at night.

It's too close to Geelong, and Apollo Bay seems a bit far. If you don't have a tight schedule, you can consider Longn or Anjixi in the middle, which are also good choices.
