Is it necessary to rent a navigation system in China, or just use apps like Baidu Maps ?

If you rent a car like a Passat, it will come with a built-in navigation system. These navigation systems are usually very useful. If not, you can use Google Maps on your phone. The navigation systems you bring from China may have older maps and may not be very useful.

Scouting should be okay. When you arrive at the pier, you should check the ferry for available parking spaces at that time. If there are no available spaces, you will have to wait for the ferry with spaces, which may waste time. If you don't bring a car and only people get on the ferry, that's fine.

No need, Google Maps can be used online or offline.
