No need, take the card when entering the expressway, and swipe the card when leaving the expressway. Just pay attention not to go through the automatic payment channel.

Haven't been to Croatia, but France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and so on are all toll roads, similar to domestic ones.
