Now friends in New Zealand, what's the weather like in the South Island now, do you need to wear down jackets and sweaters ?

Anyway, when we old people went to the South Island, we wore thin down jackets every day. According to friends living in New Zealand, the temperature will drop next week.
I just came back from New Zealand. The colder it goes the further south you go on the South Island. In Queenstown, I wore down jackets in the morning and evening and thicker hoodies in the afternoon. I didn't wear a sweater. But it started raining when I was leaving, so I expect it to be cooling down and some places are even forecasting snow. Bring some warm clothes in case. It's not fun to be sick during a trip.
