It's better not to stay in Windermere because there are the most tourists and it's the most prosperous, so it's the most expensive. I stayed at Ambleside Central Hotel, which was pretty good. The hotel has free parking, although it's a short distance from the hotel. I also went to Keswick town, which is on the shore of Derwent Lake. Most of the locals go there for leisure, it's very quiet, and the price can be compared. However, it's a bit far from Windermere.
