Do I need to apply for notarization for renting a car in Hawaii? I only have a translation at the moment, and I'm afraid I won't have enough time to get the notarization done ?

For safety, I notarized my driver's license in China, which cost more than 200 yuan. When handling the procedures, I submitted the notarized document and the translation I did myself. The staff directly chose the translation and didn't even look at the notarized document.
I previously rented a car from Alamo with my girlfriend on Oahu Island in Hawaii. We only showed translated documents and didn't need to show any notarized documents.
