It seems that it's not smooth. It should be Melbourne-Apollo-Campbell-Warrnambool, which is smoother. I traveled this way myself. Now I'm in Kangaroo Island.

I don't think so. You can start from Melbourne along the inland route to Warrnambool. The driving time should be shorter this way, and then go back along the coastal route, taking your time to see things.
