Can anyone tell me how much Canadian dollars should a family of three exchange for a 9-day trip? Is 1000 Canadian dollars enough ?

You don't need too much cash, as long as you have a Visa or MasterCard. The only place you need cash is when you need to feed the parking meter on the side of the road. But there are also many places where you can pay by card. When you pay a tip when eating out, you don't need cash, just choose the tip ratio when you check out on the POS machine.
It should be possible! Most supermarkets, restaurants, and attractions accept Visa.
My husband and I spent 14 days in Canada. We used our credit cards for everything (including eating and shopping at the airport, buying at the Calgary-Banff-Jasper supermarkets, filling up the gas tank, and staying at hotels and restaurants, etc.). We took $500 CAD with us and brought it back in the same condition. This is just for reference.
Okay, you can use your card for everything here, so you don't need to carry too much cash. I go out to play and sometimes my family only has 400-500 yuan on them.
