Leaving Taoyuan at 12 o'clock, it's a bit rushed to go from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan. The Y21 road from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan will have heavy fog in the afternoon and the road will be closed at night. If you go to Sun Moon Lake, you will probably have to take a night road and detour from Chiayi to Alishan.

At five o'clock in the evening, it's better to stay at Sun Moon Lake, and the next day, after breakfast, go to Alishan. It's not easy to drive from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan, with low visibility due to fog and mostly mountain roads. The road will be closed if it's too late.
