Which is better: staying in a campervan or a regular car at a homestay for 4 days along the Great Ocean Road ?

No good or bad, it all depends on your own needs. Personally, I think it's okay to rent one for a week for the novelty, but don't make it too long.
The Great Ocean Road and other short-distance routes are best suited for regular sedans
Your English is good enough, and you are good at planning ahead. However, since you are used to driving a large vehicle, I still suggest driving a motorhome. It's really annoying to carry and pack the luggage every day, which takes me over an hour. I am a family of three, just for your reference.
Parking for vans and campervans is prohibited at some attractions along the Great Ocean Road.
Why rent an RV if you're not staying at a campground!
Everyone has their own advantages and disadvantages. You have to choose for yourself.
