Just came back from Nice to a hotel near Marseille. Based on my experience, if you are Road trip in southern France, small cities like Nice and Marseille, do not book hotels in the downtown area. Overnight parking fees are expensive. For example, the Kyriad Nice Gare hotel we booked in Nice, a double room on the 8th floor without breakfast was more than 900. The parking fee was 20 euros. It is recommended to book a hotel with a free parking lot (of course, it is about 10-15 kilometers away from the downtown area). Then take the subway, light rail or drive into the city to play.
