I have never heard of a pre-authorization of +1 for refueling. I have tested it in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Mauritius, and Australia. It's always been swipe as much as you need, just some places have attendants and some places require self-service. You definitely swiped wrong, the gas station should have canceled it at the time. Quickly call the card department to check this transaction.
