What should I do if the parking machine in some unmanned parking lots does not allow me to enter the license plate number when paying ?

Insert a coin into the pay machine, press the button, and the machine will spit out a paper slip showing how long you can stay. Just paste the slip on the front windshield of your car.
You are thinking too complicated. Many unmanned parking lots just require coin or card payment to purchase time, print out the small receipt and place it on the windshield for reference, no need to enter the license plate number.
But many parking lots in the UK, although scanning license plates, still require parking tickets at the entrance (inserted into the machine when paying).
