May I ask if the authorized amount will be deducted directly when picking up the car, and then refunded to the credit card when returning the car ?

Generally around February, if you have no violations, your GEI card will be automatically refunded to you, which is similar to domestic practices.
I rented a car from Sixt, the rent was over 400 pounds, and they pre-authorized over 900 pounds. Three days after returning the car, they deducted the rent. However, there was a scratch, and a few days later they emailed me to fill in credit card information to pay for the damage. I am hesitating on how to proceed because I have to fill in the 3-digit number on the back of the credit card, and I am afraid of leaking it.
My understanding of pre-authorization is just to freeze the credit card limit, not actual deduction. The actual rental cost will be deducted within a certain period after you return the car. If there is any violation during the past trip, the rental company will also deduct from your credit card in the future.
