Thailand's first ever smoke-free zones have been officially launched in Bangkok. The zones, which cover 27 areas across the city, are part of a government plan to reduce smoking and improve public health. The zones are marked with signs and include restaurants, shopping malls, hospitals, parks and other public areas. Smoking is banned within a 10-meter radius of these areas. Smoking is a major cause of death and disease in Thailand, with around 150,000 people dying each year from smoking-related illnesses. The government has been working to reduce smoking rates through various initiatives, including increasing taxes on tobacco products and launching public awareness campaigns. The launch of the smoke-free zones is seen as a significant step forward in the government's efforts to improve public health and reduce smoking rates. It is hoped that the zones will encourage smokers to quit and discourage non-smokers from starting.
