The way from Phillip Island to Great Ocean Road via Mornington Peninsula and then taking a ferry to land is not recommended. It takes about 2 hours longer and costs more than 100 Australian dollars in ferry fees. The scenic view is just average, at most it's an experience. In addition, some car rental companies do not allow their vehicles to take the ferry and will not pay for insurance in case of an accident. You need to understand this clearly.
