If you accidentally drive on the expressway, just let the rental company pay for it. If you don't have e-toll (which is the default for Avis cars), the toll and service fee will be deducted from your deposit.

There is no such thing, the United States is all freeway, only part of the road on the left side of the fastest lane is written as a toll expressway, and you can go to the normal lane if you don't pay.
