There are no expressways in northern Thailand. The roads are similar to our national highways and are not toll roads.

We ran from Chiang Mai to Mae Rim, then from Mae Rim to Chiang Rai, and finally back to Chiang Mai from Chiang Rai, without seeing any expressways or tolls.
