I have a question: when renting a car in Edinburgh, if I park on the roadside and see the sign 'permit holders N1', do I need to pay? And how do I pay at the machine? I don't understand and I don't know how to operate it. I'm worried that I might incur a late fee if I don't pay. My English is not good and I can't communicate with the locals. Please help me, I'm in a hurry ?

permit holders only means only residents with parking permits are allowed to park. Vehicles without permits will be fined 50 pounds and may receive consecutive fines. This is similar to the parking permits in your neighborhood, usually circular in shape, with blue for residents and purple for temporary guests (at least in Manchester).
Only those with an N1 parking permit can park. You can't park unless the landlord gives you permission.
Only certified individuals are allowed to stop.
Input the vehicle number, select the time to stop, the coin corresponding to each time period, print out the parking ticket, and put it on the driver's seat in the car. Remember to come back on time to pick up the car. Otherwise, you will be fined for exceeding the time.
