Can anyone tell me if there are any issues with using a magnetic stripe card to pay a deposit when renting a car ?

It is best to bring a chip card to the UK, as all self-service machines use chips. The manual POS machines may have magnetic stripe readers, or they may not, in any case, it is relatively troublesome.

It is possible to rent a car using a magnetic stripe card, but it is unfortunate when trying to buy an Oyster card at the subway station as the machines only accept chip cards. It is especially important to note this when the staff are about to finish their shifts.

No problem. Some car rental companies require the card and name of the renter to match, while others do not.
