Is it true that there is a section of gravel road on the way to Grinnell, and regular cars are not allowed to drive on it? And is it true that the car damage insurance does not cover it ?

We are driving Toyota with five seats throughout. We can drive it all the way. Just drive slowly on bad roads. Originally it was basic insurance. Later, when we picked up the car, we added comprehensive insurance and drove it with peace of mind.

We used Google navigation to drive to the entrance of the walkway yesterday. The road conditions were good all the way, without any gravel roads.

There is no gravel road from Queenstown to Glenorchy. The gravel road starts at a T-junction about 8km north of Glenorchy on the road to Paradise.

That's the way to Paradise! The road from Queenstown to Glenorchy is sealed. There's gravel road north of Glenorchy, none of the rental car insurance cover those unsealed roads. The car has GPS, don't take the risk.
