Have you ever driven on a mountain road at night in New Zealand with friends ?

Drove from Cook's Hill to Wanaka at night, to be honest, the road is dark and winding, not recommended to drive, it's better to avoid driving at night if possible.
Have you driven in New Zealand? No lights at night.
I picked up the car in New Zealand at around 8 pm one evening. Since my accommodation was in Kaikoura's motel, I had to drive all the way there at night. During the journey, it was raining slightly, and the mountain road was really difficult to drive on. The lanes were narrower than normal roads, and there were guardrails on both sides. There were also some sections that were temporarily single-lane due to construction. Although there were fewer cars at night, I still had to obey the temporary traffic lights to give way. There were not many cars driving in the same direction on the mountain road, and some buses would pass by. There would also be one or two private cars following the buses. When overtaking, there would be a lot of mist, so I tried to slow down and turn on the windshield wipers to the maximum. When there were no cars, I would turn on the high beams, and when there were cars, I would turn off the high beams. The visibility was also poor in the rain. The day before, I didn't know this, so when I saw the other side with the high beams on, I would wave at them. Later, I found out that flashing the high beams twice in New Zealand was to tell the other person that there was a police officer ahead, and they should drive carefully. After that, I never waved at the cars with high beams on again for several days.
Try not to drive at night!
Last night... the kind with fog.
