Just looked at your itinerary. Are you only staying for one night between San Francisco and Los Angeles? If you're planning to stay in Monterey, it might not be very suitable because you'll have a tight schedule to get to Los Angeles the next day if you're taking Highway 1. If you take the freeway instead of Highway 1, it won't be as interesting. The navigation will probably direct you to take Highway 101, which isn't very exciting, just a rush to get there.
