Introduction

Lyttelton is a small port town located on the east coast of the South Island, about 12 kilometers away from Christchurch. There is a 1.9-kilometer railway and highway tunnel between the town and Christchurch, which is known as the longest highway tunnel and the oldest railway tunnel in New Zealand (built on December 9, 1867 and officially opened). On the other side of the tunnel is a container terminal where tourists can observe the entire port and terminal operations up close. In addition, there is a scenic village called Rapaki near Lyttelton, which is nestled between mountains and waters.
