Sumner, A Coastal Haven of Serenity and Surf

Sumner, Christchurch 8081, New Zealand

Introduction

Sumner is a seaside suburb located 12 kilometers southeast of Christchurch, where people can relax and unwind. Many houses built on hilltops here, some of which are over a hundred years old, have persevered through earthquakes and continue to stand firm. This makes the place even more touching. In addition, Sumner has many great restaurants, lively bars, and movie theaters. It is recommended to stay here for one or two nights since there are many backpacker hostels and hotels available. During the day, you can take a bus to Christchurch for sightseeing and return to comfortable seaside living at night, which is also highly anticipated. Furthermore, in the summer, you can enjoy surfing at the beach. If you have time, you can also visit Taylor's Mistake Beach. It takes about an hour's walk on a small hilly road from Sumner to reach the beach. You can walk along Taylor's Mistake Bay to Godley Beach Park, where you can see a variety of beautiful scenery and war relics, such as cannons and air-raid shelters from World War I. You can also see Rosy Morn and Stone End, two beautiful stone houses that have been standing for nearly a century, which are simple yet stunning.
