Introduction

Provisional Parliament House was the Australian Parliament's residence from 1927 to 1988 and is located in the Australian Capital Territory of Canberra. The historic building was originally intended as a temporary residence for Parliament, designed to serve as a 50-year temporary residence until a permanent Parliament House could be built after Parliament relocated from Melbourne to Canberra. In 1988, after the new Parliament House was built, Parliament officially relocated to the new location while Provisional Parliament House retained its historical significance.
