Introduction

On August 14, 1945, World War II was declared victorious, and New York City residents took to the streets to celebrate. During the festivities at Times Square, a sailor met and kissed a nurse next to him, captured in a beautiful moment by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt for Life magazine and widely circulated, known as the "V-J Day kiss." Today, there is a giant sculpture of the "V-J Day kiss" in San Diego Harbor, attracting endless attention and photo opportunities from tourists.
