Introduction

Mr. Cabrillo became the first European to set foot on the west coast of America in 1542, entering San Diego and embarking on a historical exploration journey. Today, the Cabrillo National Monument preserves the exploration route of the 16th century and offers panoramic views of the city, harbor, naval base, and Coronado Island. In addition, visitors can watch films and lectures at the visitor center to gain a deeper understanding of the background and process of this historical event over four hundred years ago. A 2.5-mile hike along the winding cliffs leads to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, where magnificent views of the bay can be enjoyed.
