Introduction

The Crown Fountain in Millennium Park in Chicago is a famous public art and interactive work created by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa in 2004, with a price tag of $17 million. The fountain features a reflecting pool made of black granite, flanked on either side by 50-foot towers outfitted with LED screens that display digital images of faces. From May to October, the fountain periodically discharges water from the mouths of the towers through nozzles on their front faces. Despite being only operational at certain times, the stunning design and unique display have attracted millions of visitors to admire the fountain.
