Introduction

Treasure Island is an artificial island located between San Francisco and Oakland, originally built with soil excavated during the construction of the Bay Bridge. Construction began in 1936 and was completed three years later for the purpose of welcoming the 1939 International Exposition. The island is named after Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island and is said to contain a small amount of gold. Originally intended to be San Francisco's airport, it was ultimately located in San Mateo. Today, Treasure Island is a military base for the US Navy and offers a beautiful view of the San Francisco skyline. The island has a beautiful night view, with a visual integration of the nearby financial district and the lit-up Bay Bridge. On Treasure Island, visitors can relax, take a walk, and appreciate the sea and the boats coming in and out of the harbor. However, please remember to wear extra clothing as the winds can be strong.
