Introduction

The Varlaam Monastery is located about 700 meters from the Great Meteoron Monastery along a mountain road. Visitors can visit a small museum here and admire the exquisite Byzantine late murals created by Frangos Kastellanos. These murals depict Alexander the Great, a powerful conqueror, some of which depict him as an ugly skeleton.
